Ducks Unlimited

Barrs Plumbing recently participated in a wonderful community event and night of fundraising for wildlife & wetlands conservation. Barrs Plumbing was the title sponsor for the event, donating over $15,000. Here is some information about the Suwannee River Chapter Ducks Unlimited of Lake City Banquet:
What does Ducks Unlimited do?
Ducks Unlimited is a nonprofit organization established in 1937 to conserve wetlands, grasslands, and associated habitats to benefit waterfowl, other wildlife, and communities. 715,000 members nationally, including 31,000 volunteers who organized 4,500 fundraising events in the last year. Ducks Unlimited employs waterfowl biologists, wetland scientists, engineers, fundraising staff, policy representatives, and administrative experts across the country.
What is conservation?
Conservation is the planned protection, restoration, and management of a natural resource to ensure its sustainable use and enjoyment by current and future generations. Ducks Unlimited conservation methods fall into three categories: protecting healthy intact wetlands with conservation easements or purchases, enhancing existing wetlands or wetlands that have been degraded, and restoring wetlands in areas where they historically existed but have been drained or hydrologically altered. The need is urgent: more than 50% of historical wetland area across the United States has been drained, degraded, or converted to alternative uses.
19.6 million North American acres have been conserved since 1937.
Barrs Plumbing, Inc. was honored to be the title sponsor of the local Suwannee River Ducks Unlimited of Lake City annual evening of conservation- banquet and auction. Together with local community leaders, business owners, and wildlife supporters $135,000.00 was raised.

With the support of our customers, both companies (Barrs & A&B) were able to provide wish-list presents to multiple families in our community. Additionally, several of our own Barrs Plumbing and A&B employees personally brought in gifts to donate to the cause! Some of Santa’s younger helpers (BP and A&B employees’ kiddos) helped shop, wrap, and deliver the gifts. Teaching them about the spirit of giving was an added bonus to an event that was overwhelmingly special and heartwarming.

Barrs participated in the Florida Gateway Fair Livestock sale on Thursday, 10/30. Each year, the youth of Columbia Co. spend months prior to the county fair raising livestock projects; swine, steers, beef production heifers, dairy cows, and goats. With the guidance of our local FFA and 4H chapters, youth livestock projects create opportunities to promote and develop responsibility, leadership, communication, personal development, and agricultural education. The livestock projects will be sold in a live auction setting during the fair. Local businesses and community supporters have the opportunity to purchase the livestock project.
Last year, Barrs Plumbing Inc. and A&B spent over $15,000 combined in our livestock contributions!
Here is an article that gives more explanation of the benefits to youth who participate in livestock programs. The article puts into words why our companies are such strong supporters of this process.

This church is a pillar in our community, giving back in a big way at every opportunity. Their vision "To be debt free so that we can give generously to meet the needs in our community!" How, "Build a House to Pay for the House!"
Barrs was proud to donate $12,500 of labor and plumbing materials towards the construction of the house!

The Suwannee River Breast Cancer Awareness Association, Inc. is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in January 2011 by three fishermen inspired to give back after cancer deeply affected their families. Moved by the support their loved ones received, they created the organization to help others facing similar hardships. Today, the association provides financial assistance to qualified applicants by paying essential bills—such as rent, mortgage, utilities, and insurance—directly to service providers, easing the burden for families impacted by breast cancer.
Thank you to everyone who booked service in September! We’re grateful for your help in allowing us to give back to Breast Cancer Awareness and were able to donate $10,000!
